[ Lucien sits for a while with the note and the gifts, running the cotton between his fingers as he allows the fact that it's been two years to just sink in. How? He isn't upset, he finds, he's just--he cannot remember the last time any sense of contentment lasted this long.
He slips from his room to find Ororo, hoping he can catch her alone. He smiles when he sees her in the kitchen. Quick as anything, he slips up behind her to brush a kiss to her cheek. His tail wraps loosely around her waist. ]
[ One would think that living with him and Kurt so long, she'd be used to how quick and silent they manage to move. She isn't, though, and she startles a little when gets up behind her. Thankfully she's just filling up a kettle at the sink - it's nothing dangerous, though she splashes some water onto herself with a little laugh. ]
You liked them, then? The handkerchiefs are not too simple, I hope.
[ She sets a hand over whatever part of his tail is closest. ]
They're lovely. As is your... reasoning. [ He rests his chin on her shoulder, smiling as her hand rests over his tail. He covers hers with one of his own, tattooed skin a bright and busy contrast to the warmth of hers. ]
Though giving me and Kurt a reason to slash at each other could bring regret.
[ Lucien tips his head to meet the kiss and hums softly against her mouth - a sound of contentment. ]
Well, you know what they say... more fun to play together than to play alone, [ he quips as a grin creeps across his face. But soon the expression softens again and Lucien presses a warm kiss to Ororo's brow. ]
I did not think I could have this again,[ he murmurs. ] Please know how grateful I am. For you, for Kurt. For everything.
I know. [ Of course she already knows. He doesn't have to say it, but she sees how different he acts and speaks to them in here, and how he holds himself out there, or on the network. ]
If you'll have us, you can have us for a long as you'd like. You know that. Or if you did not, please know it now.
My memory is--sometimes it doesn't hold things as well as I'd like it to. Other times it holds too many. In case I haven't told you... I do love you, Ororo.
[ He's told Kurt, even if he spent the better part of thirty minutes talking around the actual words before saying them. If he's said it to Ororo before, she deserves to hear it again - he's not the type to say it often. His love language has never been... language. ]
[ She'd never needed to hear it, perfectly content to be the one to say it between the two of them, with what she hopes is perfectly acceptable, non-demanding, non-intrusive frequency. So it's a surprise to hear it aloud now, from him, and she can't quite hide the flicker of surprise in her eyes. He's likely standing too close for him to miss it.
She lifts up a hand to cup his face for another quick kiss, and when she draws back she's pleased and maybe quietly giddy. It's nice to feel validated! ]
Well. Then, please allow us - and anyone else you love - to crowd out any unwanted thoughts with new memories.
[ He smiles against the kiss and stays close even after it breaks. ]
You're doing your damnedest, I'm rather impressed, [ he admits. ] For the most part it's just the pair of you. You and Kurt. But... I think I've a few friends.
[ It's a strange thing to wonder if this person he's become here is shades of what he might have been had his life been different. Lucien doesn't know, and he tries not to think about it often. ]
I might not say it often at all. But so long as you know, I hope it's enough for you to remember.
